An officer from the New Canaan Police Department on patrol at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, stopped a driver on East Avenue for driving without a working driver’s side brake light.

Police said that during the subsequent traffic stop, Stamford resident Andres Farfan, 38, showed signs of impairment. He proceeded to fail standardized field sobriety tests and refused to submit to a breathalyzer.

Farfan was taken into custody and charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle without an ignition device and illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Police noted that at the time of his arrest, Farfan was required to operate a vehicle with an interlock device due to a previous DWI arrest.

Following his processing, Farfan was released on a $250 bond and scheduled to appear back in court on Thursday, March 12 to respond to the charges.
